MBABANE – While it was a dream start-list but bad showing for Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa, Thandaza Zwane bagged bronze in the Athletix Grand Prix 2 Series at Bestmed Tuks, Pretoria, South Africa on Thursday night.

‘Swazi Bolt’, the fastest man in the country was at the starting point, lining up with South Africa’s 200m leaders in the IAAF world rankings Anaso Jobodwane and United States’ Justine Gatlin in the 150m but came seventh with a time of 15:50 seconds. While ‘Swazi Bolt’ did the unfamiliar 150m, which he last ran in Germany nine years ago, the duo of Mlandvo Shongwe and Thandaza competed in the 100m, where Thandaza maintained his 10:40 seconds.

There is no official record in the infrequently contested 150m event, but retired Jamaican 100m and 200m world record holder Usain Bolt set the world best, a flashy 14.35 seconds done in Manchester, England in 2009.

Athletics Association of Swaziland (AAS) Secretary, Thoba Mazibuko confirmed the results of the locals in the highly profiled competition. Thandaza and ‘Swazi Bolt’ are preparing for the Commonwealth Games next month.
Meanwhile, Phumlile Ndzinisa will be competing today at the KwaZulu Natal Meet.
