MANZINI – Nine people were injured while 31 escaped unhurt after a bus they were on board veered off the road and crashed into a wall.
The near fatal accident took place at the Manzini Traffic Circle at about 4:45pm yesterday.

The bus, which is trading as Bativakhona Trans and operates between Manzini and Matsapha Industrial Site, was coming from the Moneni direction going into the city when the accident took place.
There were 40 people on board, including the driver and conductor.

According to two men who were crossing the traffic circle going back home from work when the accident happened, the bus came from the Mangwaneni Traffic Lights speeding and when the driver was suppose to make a turn, he lost control of the bus.
“It veered off the road, ran towards us in a zig-zag manner and sped off its lane. While we were still trying to comprehend what was happening, we heard it crashing into the wall by the traffic circle and people inside were screaming,” the witnesses, who were still traumatised, said.

Police officers, firefighters and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel, who are widely referred to as paramedics, were called and responded promptly to the scene.
Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the accident.
She said among the injured people was the driver who escaped with minor injuries. Vilakati added that police were still investigating the matter.
