MBABANE – Like government’s decentralisation, football has been taken to the people.

It will be no surprise if some of this weekend’s SwaziBank Cup Last 16 games go to Nhlangano and Pigg’s Peak among other places. This is more so because the tournament’s Management Committee (MC) Secretary and PLS COO Pat Vilakati said during the draw yesterday that ‘Swazis have proven to be a football loving nation’ through their attendance.

“We’ve been to Pigg’s Peak and Nhlangano and saw very good attendance, which tells us how Swazis love football and the SwaziBank Cup which has created job opportunities for some. That said, the MC will have the fixture ready by 2:30pm today (yesterday), as we first must confirm the stadium bookings,” he said.

He also applauded the fans’ behaviour, saying the tournament started with 32 teams but now only 16 are left, yet there have no reported incidents of violence and accidents on the road. He also commended the referees and said it has so far been so good and their wish was that fans would always accept results and understand trained officials handled the games.
