MBABANE – Celebrated South African football legend, Ephraim Jomo Sono will be in the country tomorrow, watching a soccer tournament in rural Nkambeni.

Sono has been brought by Generals Holdings, a company owned by former Manzini Wanderers, Peacemakers and Sihlangu star Sibusiso ‘Scorpion’ Nxumalo, basically to motivationally uplift the area’s youth.

The Generals Holdings knockout tournament began at grassroots level, where teams played in a knockout format from their respective zones that include Sihhoye, Mabiya, Nkambeni and Madlangempisi. Each team from the zones qualified for tomorrow’s semi-finals billed for Madzanga Sports Ground, namely; Young Brothers, All Stars, Magedla Sundowns and Sihhoye Sundowns.

Sono is affectionately called the ‘Black Prince of South African Soccer’ and is the owner and coach of South Africa’s National First Division side Jomo Cosmos.
The Generals Holdings is a company located at Sihhoye in Nkambeni and timber processors for biofuels.

“We have a local soccer tournament as part of our corporate social responsibility, wherein we integrate with our society and work in a win-win spirit. We have sponsored the tournament to the tune of 40 000 for 46 soccer teams in the Nkambeni area, six netball teams and four social teams,” said Scorpion.
“This weekend is the finals for all tournaments and we have our esteemed guest in Jomo Sono from South Africa, to grace our semi-finals on Saturday starting at 10am. Then on Sunday we will stage the finals for the tournament where the winners will be produced.”

The knockout tournament started last year and will run for four years.
“As a local soccer legend myself and Director of Generals Holdings, we saw it fit to invite other notable soccer legends to inspire our youth to greatness. This initiative will assist our youth to curb crime, keep healthy bodies, showcase talent and be responsible citizens. We trust it will be received joyfully by the community. We also believe that charity begins at home since I was born in this area, hence the need to plough back.”
