MBABANE – It’s now a two horse race for t-e PLS chairmanship post after Midas City elder Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula withdrew from the race on Monday night.

The Times Sports Desk has reliably gathered that the race to replace dearly departed chairman, Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze, who was gunned down on January 14, is now between Manzini Sea Birds’ Sicelo Mkhonta and Manzini Sundowns boss Mark Carmichael. Magagula has been acting since the sad and untimely demise of Gamedze on January 14.

“It’s now a two-horse race for the PLS chairmanship.
The consensus was that the E”xecutive Committee will come up with a name during their meeting. Yes, the name of Mark Carmichael seems to be the most favoured but there are still some issues that need to be ironed out before the next Board of Governors meeting,” an informed source told the Times Sports Desk last night.

The source further stated that Magagula indicated during the meeting held at Sigwaca House on Monday that he won’t be standing for election and another member, Steve Horton, who is one of the four who qualified for the position, also showed disinterest.
The PLS chairman, who will lead the organisation until the next elective meeting, will now be elected during the next Board of Governors meeting billed for next week Thursday.
Interviewed yesterday, Magagula confirmed that he won’t be standing for the elections due to some personal commitments.

“Constitutionally, I’m eligible for the elections of the chairmanship but due to other personal commitments, I won’t be standing,” he said.
Another Executive Committee member, Mduduzi ‘Tsotsi’ Mabila, who qualifies to stand for the chairmanship election, recently publicly declared he won’t stand.

The new chairman to be elected will run the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) office for the next one and half seasons.
PLS Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati could not be reached for comment yesterday as his mobile phone was switched off.
