‘SWAZI BOLT’ TO COMPETE WITH JUSTINE GATLIN

MBABANE – It’s all good news for sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa.


The 29-year-old is amongst the athletes to compete against world celebrated sprinter Justin Gatlin in the Athletix Grand Prix series to be held in Pretoria, South Africa next month. Matsenjwa and Gatlin will be competing in a 150m.
He earns the invitation after his heroics performance in the year 2018 where he ran a number two time in 200m in the world and he was ranked second worldwide. The time he clocked during the AGN League meeting in Pretoria which was a new national record is 20:48 seconds.


Gatlin is the firth fastest human being ever in 100m and 200m in the world. He won a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics Games.
Matsenjwa confirmed yesterday that he got an invitation to compete in the competitions on March 8. This would be upon his return from Birmingham, United Kingdom where he is to compete in 60m World Indoor Championships.
The series to be held on March 1, 8 and 22 in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Paarl respectively form part of his preparations for the Commonwealth Games billed for April 4 to 16.


“Through the Athletics Association of Swaziland from Athletics South Africa (ASA) I got the invitation after running the world number two time and African leading time this year in 200m of the 20:48 seconds,” he said.
“It’s a great honour to be invited in such competitions where the world best will be competing. I will now wait for the starting list and Om ready to give my best during the competitions,” he added.


The 150m fit Matsenjwa well as he specialises in 100m and 200m. He holds national records for both the events in the country.
Matsenjwa recent achievement was to be rated second in the world win in 200m and also broke the 400m national record that was also broken by Thandaza Zwane.
