MANZINI – After all the court battles leading to the SwaziBank preliminary round, Hub Sundowns and Milling Hot Spurs progressed to the last 32 of the tournament.

The National First Division sides cruised to the last 32 of the 15th edition of the SwaziBank Cup dubbed Uyayifuna Na, played here last night. Despite advancing to the next round, Hub lodged a protest in their game against Manzini Sea Birds just before kick-off.

Hub, however, beat Sea Birds 3-0 in the play-off match and they will now face Green Mamba on Saturday in the same venue. Also, they are unlikely to pursue their protest after this win that all confirmed their name in the next round of the richly sponsored tournament, where the eventual champion will walk away with a whopping E1 million.

Hub Director Steve Horton confirmed the protest, saying they did not recognise the rules and regulations of the competition. He alleged that the tournament rules are supposed to be facilitated by the competition committee only but this was not the case.

Goals from Victor Epalla, Gcina Ngwenyama and Jonathan Ngwenya ensured Hub progress to the next stage. Epalla opened the scores chart in the 32nd minute, tapping from close range while Ngwenyama benefitted from goal-mouth scramble in the 48th minute with Ngwenya putting the last nail on the coffin after 70 minutes.

Meanwhile, giant slayers Milling Hot Spurs who beat Mbabane Highlanders and Matsapha United in the Ingwenyama Cup recently, scored through Lungelo Nyoni and Lungelo Mkwanazi with Norman Dlamini pulling one for Rangers. Nyoni scored a brace, breaking the deadlock in the eighth minute, finishing a low cross from Ncamiso Maseko and 18 minutes later he dribbled past Rangers goalkeeper Thembinkosi Dlamini to make it 2-1. Norman had cancelled out Milling lead a minute later after the first goal.

Milling will face Mbabane Swallows on Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium at 2pm.
