MBABANE – You may call it a Xavi-er than thou deal. Mthunzi Xavi Mkhontfo’s E200 000 transfer fee from Royal Leopard to Green Mamba has now raked in a total of E650 000 into the police side’s coffer.

This followed his E450 000 paid by DRC giants AS Vita three years ago when the player was loaned out to the Kinshasa based ensemble.
At Green Mamba the player has shattered a two-year transfer record held by Phinda ‘Phindrix’ Dlamini who joined from Red Lions for a staggering E180 000.

Impeccable sources close to the deal confided with this publication that the police side were not ready to let the player go for anything less than the E200 000. In fact, the initial asking price was said to have been even higher than what was eventually paid.

This is the same player who was signed from Mbabane Midas City for a mere E16 000.
“Green Mamba were so determined to get that they agree to the figure. They see a bright future with Xavi in their camp, as they endeavour to build a strong team to challenge the likes of Mbabane Swallows, Young Buffaloes and Royal Leopard,” one source said.

Negotiations for the player’s transfer have been led by the two armed forces team’s Presidents; Mzuthini Ntshangase and Isaac Magagula respectively.
The player had a running contract with the police that was due to expire in July. However, he has spent the past two years on loan to DRC giants AS Vita F.C.

Green Mamba CEO Thami Phakathi was expected reluctant to disclose figures in the deal, except to say that talks between the parties were smooth up to the end.
“Part of the deal is that figures remain confidential between the parties and I am personally not mandated to disclose them. But as a team we thank Leopard President and MC Chairman for cooperating during the negotiation process,” he said.
Royal Leopard PRO Frank Hurube had referred comments on the deal to the club MC Chairman Mxolisi ‘Master’ Dlamini.
Dlamini did not pick up his cellphone when called yesterday.
