MBABANE – There is a new trend in the Mbabane Parkrun. Runners or joggers partake in the weekly five kilometers race in families, friends or groups. Yesterday in the 42nd edition of the parkrun there were three local families and a couple of friends who jogged through the Mbabane Golf Course.

The families included the Morgans, the Corys, Hawleys and two families from South Africa. The Morgans who are regular in the weekly race usually come in three, the father Chris and daughter Annabel and son Tommy. In yesterday’s edition they were joined by visiting grandsons from the United Kingdom. These are Louis and Harry Day.

Interestingly Chris, who is 70 years-old has 23 total runs to his name, Annabel has 17 runs and young Tommy who has been missing in action due to an injury has done the parkrun 15 times.
Chris said they were motivated to come to the parkrun to have fun while at the same time keeping fit and healthy.
Shane Cory who invited his son, Logan said he does not regret partaking in the parkrun.

“I have been cautious about running because I had a surgery but my sons, Logan and Nic kept insisting that I should try the parkrun, it was a worthwhile experience. I am inviting more families to join the parkrun,” Cory said.

Meanwhile Johannesburg visiting couple, Elizabeth and Kobus Van Wyk said they were grateful to be part of the 42nd edition.
“We came here for the parkrun, it was a great experience, you guys have a wonderful route, its steep in the first lap and in the final lap its downhill which makes it easy to finish the race on a high note,” Kobus said.

The race was won by Nkululeko Gama on a time of 15:40 minutes while Swazi Slojos’ Gugu Mthembu shone in the ladies category on a time of 24:04 minutes.
