LOBAMBA – The inevitable has occurred. Mbabane Midas City has finally been condemned to relegation after flirting with the chop for the past 21 MTN League games.

Though the club put up a brave performance, they still were unable to prolong their survival battle beyond week 21. With five games to go, they have managed only two points, a distant 17 points behind the safety zone currently occupied by Tambuti F.C with 19 points.

The Rueben ‘Skwaya Gwebu owned side have 15 points to play for and even if they can win all of their remaining games, they will still go down, given that only two teams should be relegated at the end of the season. Red Lions, who are at nine points in 20 games, still harbour chances of surviving the axe..

City coach Isaiah Ice Dlamini said even though their chances of survival have gone, they were still a team building for a brighter future next season. He said he was impressed with the way they frustrated Swallows especially in the opening half and hour mark, before they were finally broken down by a Sandile Hlatshwako master class finish at the edge of the danger zone. Former Moneni Pirates midfielder Phila Dlamini who is on loan at Midas City from Royal Leopard bossed the belly of the park, for the relegated side.

He could have drawn his team level 10 minutes before the recess, but skied a shot high at 10 yards after dancing past Mandla Palma.
No wonder, Swallows coach Thabo Koki Vilakati was not happy at his team’s tactical discipline despite emerging 3-0 winners in the match. He vowed to tweak certain departments ahead of next week’s CAF Champions League second leg clash against Bantu F.C of Lesotho.

Midas City were motivated playing a team that is fresh from setting the scene ablaze in Maseru. Mancoba Ndwandwe was gracious in defeat.
“We might be relegated already, but can still ruffle a few feathers. We have to  be professional in the remaining games, playing to win them,” he said.
