MBABANE – Age is just a number. This, after 15-year-old Phayo Dhlamini proved this to be true as he won the first instalment of the SRIC Monthly Mug.

The Sifundzani High Form Two pupil, who started playing golf at the age of eight, carded home an impressive best net score of 65, beating over 50  experienced golfers who participated in the Swaziland Royal Insurance Cooperation(SRIC)-sponsored tournament. It was played at Mbabane Golf Course on Saturday.

The young and upcoming golfer, who is inspired by United States of America’s PGA Tour golfer Dustin Johnson, attributed his achievement to his coach Vusi Dlamini and his father Sifiso of the Swaziland Electricity Company.

“This is my first time winning this tournament, all thanks to my coach Vusi Dlamini who has been helping me in mastering drives and always motivating me. My father too has been very supportive. He is the one who introduced me to this sport,” Dhlamini said. The young golfer said he dreams of playing the sport professionally and compete with big guns in the PGA tour.

“I watch a lot of golf and this is partly where I draw my inspiration. I wish to play this sport professionally,” he said.
Meanwhile his father, Sifiso, pointed out his son’s passion for the sport and labelled him as golf future star.
