LOBAMBA - A ruthless Mbabane Highlanders condemned relegation cannon fodder Midas City to their 18th defeat of a nightmarish season with a mind-numbing 6-0 massacre last night.

The basement Isaiah ‘Ice’ Dlamini coached side are now just one defeat away from being mathematically relegated from the elite league after failing to record a single victory in 20 games and collecting a forgettable two points out of a possible 60 with six games remaining. Pure relegation form in any league and in both the country’s official languages.

Highlanders, on the other hand, spearheaded by impressive new South African  recruits Thabiso Mokenkoane and Mthobisi Mngomezulu, both grabbed a brace apiece as they cruised to their biggest win of the season eclipsing the 5-0 mauling of City Warriors in the last 32 stage of the Ingwenyama Cup back in November. Having spurned three chances in the opening 15 minutes Highlanders calmed the nerves of their hordes of supporters when the gifted Mthobisi Mngomezulu scored with a low shot at the near post which beat Midas City erratic goalkeeper Brian Christie who had a game whose DVD he would not like to watch.

Mngomezulu wearing jersey number 18 then broke into the trademark celebration jig of his fellow countryman, Mamelodi Sundowns winger Themba Zwane who wears the same jersey number 18 for the ‘yellow nation’.  Five minutes into the second half the other exciting new South African recruit Thabiso Mokenkoane marked his debut in the famed black and white of the ‘Black Bull’ with  a delightful chip over a desperate defending Melusi Dlamini after goalkeeper Brian Christie misjudged a Menzi Sithole.

City goalkeeper, Christie’s butter fingers saw him fail to hold onto a tamely taken Charles Musonda shot allowing Mthobisi to grab his second goal of the night seven minutes after the hour mark. Then Highlanders fans, who were on cloud nine at this stage watched in horror after Mokenkoane failed to score with the goalkeeper at his mercy slicing narrowly wide a gift wrapped Vusumuzi Vilakati cross in the 72nd minute.
