MBABANE – With the dark cloud hovering over local football, all football games in the Premier League and at regional level have been suspended indefinitely.

The announcement was made by Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala, in respect of assassinated Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Chairman Victor Gamedze.

Gamedze, who was also Vice President at the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) and giants Mbabane Swallows’ boss, was brutally murdered on Sunday evening at Ezulwini Galp Filling Station.

The Swazi Mobile chairman was from watching Swallows squeeze to the semi-finals of the Ingwenyama Cup, beating rivals Manzini Wanderers, courtesy of a Felix Badenhorst solitary goal at Somhlolo National Stadium.

Ngcamphalala, who was joined by colleague in Cabinet, Minister of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Dumisani Ndlangamandla at the NFAS’s Sigwaca House in the capital, along with NFAS president Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa, Vice President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane and PLS’s Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula among others, sent government’s condolences to His Majesty King Mswati III, football fraternity and the Gamedze family for the sad loss.

Gamedze served as a member of the Royal Board of Trustees.
“It is a first of its kind incident. Gamedze had driven the country forward in football and in the business sector. He was a people’s person and we pray that the law will take its course. We are in prayer with his family,” Ngcamphalala said on a weak and depleted voice, to members of the fourth estate who gathered in numbers at the football house.
