MBABANE – Most-sort-after star Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo is close to penning a mega deal with Green Mamba.

The player, who was due to sign last night with the Correctional Services side, has been offered a mouth-watering E70 000 signing-on-fee and were still discussing other accompanying benefits according to classified information gathered by the Swazi News Sports Desk. Sources close to the player also revealed the idea of reuniting with his all-time mentor Caleb Ngwenya was difficult for the former AS Vita Club striker to turn down.

‘Xavi’ who returned to the country in December following the expiry of his contract with the Congolese side, AS Vita was involved in some sort of tug-of-war as teams battled for his signature.

Openly, the player was not ready to return to Royal Leopard, despite his contract with the police ensemble only expiring in July, prompting bidding wars among teams that included Green Mamba, Mbabane Swallows and Young Buffaloes.

It remains to be seen if ‘Xavi’, who rose to prominence with Mbabane City, will appear for Green Mamba in tomorrow’s eagerly awaited Ingwenyama Cup quarterfinal clash with Buffaloes.

“I will not talk about the matter in the media. You can call the club’s spokesperson if you want anything,” disclosed one insider at Green Mamba yesterday when quizzed on the matter.
CEO Thami Phakathi asked not to comment on the matter as ‘Xavi’ was still a Leopard player.

“I can’t comment on Mthunzi as he is a Leopard player. I can only confirm that we have registered Summerset Mncina as he has fully recovered from his injury,” Phakathi said.
