JOHANNESBURG – Castle Lager has presented a rare opportunity to a local five-a-side soccer team to rub shoulders with the World’s best on the biggest stage in global football.

A new and biggest five-a-side football tournament in the continent styled Castle Africa 5s was launched before high profile guests and media personalities at Discovery Soccer Park in Johannesburg, South Africa yesterday.

It will take place across six countries including Swaziland and the ultimate winners will get a ticket to watch the World Cup in Russia in June. The most decorated African player of all time and four-time Africa Player of the Year Samuel Eto`o from Cameroon is the face of the inaugural tournament, which gets underway with preliminaries next month. Swaziland’s very own legend in Siza King Pele Dlamini is one of five brand ambassadors alongside Zambias Christopher Katongo, and Ivo Mapunda from Tanzania, as well as Tinashe Nengomasha  and Lehlohonolo Seema of Zimbabwe and Lesotho, respectively. Castle Lager Brand Director Vaughan Croeser said this year the tournament would run across six countries in Africa: Lesotho, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

“The Castle Africa 5s will be played at country level as play-offs in each country and culminate to finals that will take place in Lusaka, Zambia.  The tournament commences on February 1 and runs until May 31.
“To be part of the action, consumers simply have to purchase a promotional six pack of Castle Lager at any participating outlet, and then register their team of six players.  The lucky teams will take part in the local play-offs being held in each of the six countries, said Croeser.
