MBABANE – Cyclists will be kept on the trails and roads for the better part of the new year.

According to the Cycling Association of Swaziland (CAS) calendar of activities, it will be another action-packed year for the cyclists. On top of several lined-up races for 2018, there will be a brand new event styled Sibebe Resort Mountain Challenge on March 3. It will be an off-road race. The longest race will be 42km long.

Major road races that include the National Championships, Kukhanya, Dups Mafutseni, and MTN Khemani Cycle Classic are also on the menu.
Off-road enthusiasts will again feature in events that include Nedbank Swaziland Imvelo MTB classic and the Engen Ngwenya Glass Challenge. The notable absentee this year is the Essential Hardware MTB Classic, which was staged in January in the past few years.
CAS President Sihlangu Nhlabatsi released the schedule for the year, saying a 38km time trial at Lobamba on January 28 would kick- start the ‘season’. In an individual time trial, cyclists race alone against the clock.

International events, on the other hand, are headlined by the Commonwealth Games to be staged in Gold Coast, Australia, between April 4 and April 15. The team to represent CAS is expected to be named by the National Olympic Committee before the end of the month.
