MBABANE – Barely a year in office, Cycling Association of Swaziland (CAS) Secretary Shirley Saulus has stepped down.

Saulus, who was elected into the Sihlangu Nhlabatsi-led Board in December last year, stepped down under unclear circumstances recently. The association’s head honcho (Nhlabatsi) also confirmed the latest developments, saying Board Member Mbusi Motsa was currently keeping the fires burning.

Saulus stepped into the shoes of long-serving Secretary Menzi Tsela, who resigned during the dramatic elections at OlympAfrica Sports Development Centre in Lobamba in the past year. The former is a cyclist from Kukhanya Cycling Club. She confirmed stepping down, but did not come out clear on why she chose to jump ship.

This month marked exactly a year since the new Board came into office. Other members of the executive committee include Vice President Joseph Waring and Treasurer Mduduzi Kaudi, to mention but a few. In his end-of-year speech, Nhlabatsi, on the other hand, thanked all the stakeholders that kept the sport in the spotlight.

“For us to be able to execute yet another successful year has been due to commitment by various partners and stakeholders, who stretched themselves to assist us achieve our mandate.
“Firstly, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Sports and
Culture led by the Honourable David Ngcamphalala, who by our view excelled in the leadership of sports in Swaziland,” said Nhlabatsi.
Nhlabatsi, in his statement, said his office was equally indebted to Deputy Prime Minister Paul Dlamini for his dedication to the sport and for being exemplary to the youth by cycling at his old age.
