MBABANE – Football’s festive period has been spoilt as death has struck once again.

Former Young Buffaloes and national team Sihlangu striker Salebona ‘Salas’ Jele is no more. Information gathered by this newspaper is that he collapsed and died last week.

“His family reported the sad news at his workplace on Saturday at Nhlangano where he was stationed,” confirmed a close source. Details of his demise were scanty at the time this report was compiled. Jele joined Buffaloes around the 2005/06 season.

“I’ve heard the news,” responded Young Buffaloes coach Dominic Kunene yesterday. Buffaloes PRO Sandile Gwebu opted not to say anything about the news when reached for comment.

Army PRO Nkosinathi Dlamini refused to comment but advised that his (Jele) family of Masibini to be contacted. However, efforts to get a comment from the family proved to be in vain due to lack of contacts.

The news of his demise started doing the rounds on Sunday morning. Jele’s demise comes when football was still missing former Mbabane Swallows CEO/PRO Sibusiso Manana and Manzini Wanderers National Supporters Committee’s ex-Chairman Dovololo Gamedze among others.

He was one of the fierce strikers in the elite league and also won the league’s Top Goal Scorer award in 2006/07 while also helping Buffaloes to their one and only elite league title in 2009/10 season. Coach Zenzele ‘Ace’ Dlamini was in charge of the strongest Buffaloes squad when they won the league.
Jele continued to play football after his time was up at Buffaloes before hanging up his boots a few years ago.
