MBABANE – It was a case of so near yet far for pointless and 10-men Mbabane Midas City yesterday.

For about 1 530 minutes played this season, the Isaiah ‘Ice’ Dlamini-coached side has not got a point in the MTN League; the longest ever run by a team in the division.

This team exhibits all the attributes of a jinxed side.
After holding their own for over an hour, they conceded a controversial goal from a suspected offside position for provider Mancoba Mavimbela whose cross was finished off by Mohammed Sabella for his eighth goal of the campaign. The incident left the Midas City players crowding first assistant referee Mandla Gama.

Linda Msibi was shown a red card for kicking goalscorer Mohammed Sabella in an off the ball incident out of sheer frustration.
Then with 10 minutes to go, left back Nhlanhla Dlamini saw his penalty kick saved by goalkeeper Machawe Dlamini after Mancoba Zwane had been tripped inside the penalty box by Sibusiso Tfwala who had come on for Phinda Nkonyane.

Even after the missed penalty, they had a chance to draw level from a corner kick that captain ‘Melo’ headed narrowly wide from five yards out.

The above just sums up the sad story of Midas City whose performance has even exceeded junk status in the league. Here is a team which two seasons ago finished in the top five with 36 points, a point behind fourth-placed Mbabane Swallows at 37 points.  They were eighth last season.

They did not get what they deserved though against Vovovo after playing one of their best games in a long time. They stuck to a game plan that frustrated Musa Mamba and his charges.
