MBABANE – Old habits die hard. Hub giants Manzini Wanderers and fan trouble seem to be synonymous.

The maroon and white outfit is set to contribute another sizeable amount of E100 000 to the E300 000 already made by the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) after one of their fans allegedly poured alcohol on an assistant referee if they are found guilty.

This was during the Ingwenyama Cup last 16 games at Mayaluka Stadium. The male fan, was quickly taken out of the Mayaluka Stadium after brazenly pouring beer on assistant referee Celumusa Malinga. This was during the match between Royal Leopard and Madlenya FC.

The assistant referees had a tough time at Mayaluka Stadium doing their duty as he time and again collided with fans walking closely to the touch-line of the field. There were no barriers to keep the fans away from the touch-line where the assistant referees where making their runs.

The referee stopped the game and consulted with Malinga and the match commissioner who both took note of the incident. If charged by the Ingwenyama Cup Management Committee (MC), the ‘Weslians’ may pay a minimum fine of E10 000 or maximum fine of E100 000. According to the rules and regulation of the Ingwenyama Cup, article 13, 1(c) assaulting a referee(s) or match official(s) or club official(s) or player(s) or fan (s) or supporter(s) or spectator(s) – a minimum fine of E10, 000-00 and a maximum fine of E100, 000.00. In addition, the offending club shall be ordered to compensate the victim for any financial loss incurred due to the assault.

‘The Weslians’, who cruised to a 2-1 victory over the Tinyosi during their match, could further face a minimum fine of E3 000 and maximum E10 000 if they are charged and found guilty of failing to control their fans.
