MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows are guilty as charged.

This is after the Thulani Sibandze chaired Disciplinary Committee found the capital city giants guilty of assaulting an assistance referee at Somhlolo National Stadium 10 days ago. The DC members were comprised of Elliot Mkhatswa and Simeon Simelane. The incident occurred during the MTN Premier League match where the ‘Birds’ played to a 1-all draw against Matsapha United. An Umkhonto Kashaka fan threw a water bottle at the assistant referee of the day.
According to MTN PLS Rules and Regulations Article 7.1(c) “Assaulting a referee, PLS official, player, club official, marshal, supporter, fan, spectator, may attract a fine of not less than E50 000 by the disciplinary Committee.

‘‘In addition, the offending club shall be ordered to compensate the victims for any financial loss incurred due to the assault.” The case was heard last night at Sigwaca House where Swallows were represented by their coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati and General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane. According to a reliable source close to the matter, Swallows were found guilty and were fined E60 000. However, the source did not want to divulge much information as he referred the media to the people who were handling the matter. When the Mbabane Swallows officials were asked about the verdict, they also referred the media to the prosecutor; Desmond Manda, while the latter also pointed to the PLS COO, Pat Vilakati. The COO said he could only give the verdict to the media after getting a written one from the DC.
