MBABANE – The axe looms large for Mbabane Swallows’ current foreign contingent of players.

This is more so because it has transpired that ‘Umkhonto KaShaka’, as Swallows are fondly known, are ready to break the bank and sign players who can help them do well in the Total CAF Champions League 2018– the club’s Chairman Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze made his intentions clear on the Champions League.

He certainly targets beyond the group stage after reaching same in the CAF Confederation Cup 2017 for the first time in history. His team have already got two Nigerian players, an attacking midfielder and striker in their ‘nest’ after being fetched from South Africa yesterday.

The two players, Poto Ochuko Emmanuel and David Idown Ogoazi, played their football in Mauritius and Western Europe, respectively. The duo are not all Swallows will be looking at but insiders have said three more in Zambia’s top flight are also expected to join them for assessment.

However, no names were given on those from Zambia. Other than these, they are also expecting Ivorian player Kouassi Koffi Leon Martial, who plied his trade in Nigeria’s top flight, to arrive in the country. It was also established that there was also a Ghanaian who arrived on Sunday as well but his name could not be ascertained. This news will certainly send shivers down the spines of the current foreign players in the team.
Swallows currently have South African defender Siphamandla Dlamini, whose form this season has slightly dropped, misfiring Malawian striker Gomezgani Gondwe, South African defender Lazola Kunene and Nigerian defender Stanley Umukoro.
