E5 000 FOR NATIONAL NETBALL TEAM HEROINES

MBABANE – The country’s Netball National team has been described as the country’s heroines after their gallant performance in the Mission Foods Nations Cup in Singapore.


The team brought home silver medals from the tournament after narrowly losing 39-38 to Cook Island in the finals of the tournament where six teams took part. They were given a warm welcome home by the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala, who presented the team with E5 000 for their Christmas party, in celebration of the achievement.


Also present was the Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) President, Peter Shongwe, Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC) Board Member, Thandi Mavimbela, who represented Chairman Lawrence ‘Lolo’ Mthethwa, SNSRC Zama Tsabedze, Mangaliso Sihlongonyane, who represented Director of Sports and National Netball Association of Swaziland (NNAS), President Mandisa Sigudla.


Ngcamphalala said the country was proud of the ladies after putting the country on the map in the world of sports. He said the girls proved to be heroines and they have boosted the country’s tourism and economy.


“In the world of sport they are talking about Swaziland, after the splendid performance by the netball team. I was even called by my colleagues from other countries congratulating the country for the good performance,” he said.


Ngcamphalala then presented the team with E5 000. He said they will host a party to celebrate the performance.
The team sent to play in Singapore ranked 30th in the World and sixth in Africa. The International Netball Association is yet to release the new rankings after the tournament in Singapore.
