MANZINI – Misery likes company.
After what was a game of two halves, Red Lions was the team that left the Mavuso Sports Centre gracious in defeat if events of the past three days are anything to go by.

‘Amabhubesi’ had put Coach Mlamuli ‘Sputla’ Zwane aside while also dissolving the Management Committee on Thursday, only to wake up the following day to reverse the decision.

The first 20 minutes of the game reflected scars of the internal turmoil among the players as they literally chased shadows against a Sundowns side that appeared destined to repeat their 4-0 first round demolition of their neighbours.

Red Lions were disjointed, and goalkeeper Jim Knowledge showed little knowledge in goals with his comedy of errors. And the Zimbabwean goalminder should take the flak for the second and third goal scored by Enzo Motsa and Sandumuzi Zwane, respectively.
Sundowns opened the scoreboard 10 minutes into the game, with in form striker, Melusi Mkhwanazi, pouncing on a loose ball at 10 yards to beat a hesitant Jim Knowledge.

It was 2-0 10 minutes later, this time, Melusi provided the assist for Enzo Motsa who received a cross unmarked at 16 yards out and coolly placed the ball in the far corner. In honour of his former teammates at Red Lions, he refused to celebrate the goal.
It did not matter to his Sundowns teammates, as they enjoyed the early match cruise against a team that looked dead and buried.

Sputla had to make a quick tactical change, bringing on playmaker Mthokozisi Hlatjwako for Mfundo who was a spectator in the field of play. Hlatjwako first struggled to match the rhythm of the game, following his long injury layoff.
