MANZINI – They do not only run a gym but also an Oyama Karate Children’s Training Programme that saw its young karate stars thrill the crowd in yesterday’s 10th Annual STANLIB Oyama Kyokushin Karate Champ of Champs.

The group of children, trained by Sensei Thabo Maseko at The Gables in Ezulwini inside Phela Live Gym and Sensei Sabelo Dlamini at UNISWA, Kwaluseni, put up a scintillating display of techniques or skills which in the karate world is known as the kata.
This was yesterday at Mavuso Sports Emporium during the much-awaited karate tournament sponsored to the tune of E30 000 by STANLIB Swaziland for 10 years running now.

“These kids are part of our Oyama Karate Kids’ Training Programme and they got together here for a kata presentation as we believe, as Oyama that they are the future of the sport,” explained Sensei Maseko.

He said some of youngsters train at UNISWA in Kwaluseni while others are at Phela Live in Ezulwini. The two Senseis, Maseko and Dlamini, also invited interested parents to simply contact them and sign up their children for the training.

They said training was held every Friday from 5 to 6pm at UNISWA and at 9am to 11am at Phela Live. Their presentation was among the event’s opening displays and they certainly got a good response from the crowd that started looking good as early as 10.30am. However, the competition had not yet started by 11am but you can expect to learn more about it in tomorrow’s edition. Sensei Maseko’s contact number is 7633 6846.
