MBABANE – Cracks are starting to show at ambitious elite league newcomers Matsapha United.

Coach Saul Chaminuka has not returned from his native Zimbabwe amid a contractual dispute with the club. Sources close to the tactician have revealed that Chaminuka is working on National First Division campaign financial terms despite promises that his wages would be increased if he got the team promoted.

The former Zimbabwe ‘Warriors’ assistant coach left Matsapha during the FIFA week and missed Saturday’s 0-2 defeat at the hands of Young Buffaloes in an MTN League encounter. His assistants Zwelibanzi ‘Botsotso’ Khoza and Sam Mbaya Katala, who are currently keeping the fires burning, are expected to once again lead the team in Saturday’s crunch clash with Royal Leopard.

“Chaminuka was handed a performance based contract with the affirmation that his wages would be raised in the event he helped the side gain promotion. But it has not happened and the coach feels not valued by the club and has returned to Zimbabwe,” a close ally to the coach said.

Matsapha United Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini is reported to have sent the coach an e-mail on Tuesday, giving Chaminuka until today to report to their Madala Lodge campsite in Kwaluseni.

‘Mavikane’ refused to give this newspaper a comment on the coach’s whereabouts when reached yesterday, saying the club had issues it needed to first sort out with this newspaper.

“We are not happy with reporting on our issues and until we have talks with the Sports Department head, we are not ready to make any comments to the Times,” he said briefly.
