MBABANE – Thirteen games, zero points and first round over but basement side Midas Mbabane City have boldly declared they will be in the elite league next season.

Before you pinch yourself to see if you really are reading this because you sure are; the struggling club seemingly has a plan to retain their status. This is if their Board of Directors’ Secretary Bongani ‘Bhanyaza’ Mdluli’s statement on national radio, SBIS’ Sport Show yesterday morning is anything to go by.

“We have lost 13 games and can still win 13 games in the second round. Besides, if we win two or three games, we go above others who are not far off with points. We will be in Premier League next season, one way or the other,” Mdluli said as he responded to programme host Nathi Mdockies’ Hlophe.

Mdluli had been asked by Hlophe what was wrong with the club that they could go the entire first round without a point. He was also questioned about their former players’ issue as they challenged their registration. The matter is with the Football Association (FA) and could go as far as FIFA, according to City.

City also openly challenged the 14-team league saying it was illegitimate in that Vovovo and Mbabane Highlanders should be in First Division.

“We lost 11 starting players under unclear circumstances and our question about is how they got registered with other clubs, especially because we had twice written to the FA alerting them there was a problem as regards our sold players. Their registration makes us doubt the new online registration system,” he said.

FA CEO Frederick Mngomezulu was also called during the programme to answer on the City issue over registration.
“It’s unfortunate that I can’t respond, especially because the issues you are talking about are already at a certain level and making comments now could compromise the affected parties,” Mngomezulu said.

He said it was best to let the relevant structures handle the matter as it was already with the FA after City wrote to them.
