MANZINI – The University of Swaziland (UNISWA) were victorious on debut in a swimming competition during the Hoy Level Gala.

A majority of the swimmers took home medals including gold in different catergories. The newly-established club is based at UNISWA Kwaluseni Campus and it had about nine swimmers who took part in the tournament held at Enjabulweni School in Manzini.

Some of the swimmers who made their first appearance in the competition were Tandzile Zwane, Thabiso Mdaka, Thobile Simelane, Mandanda Mthethwa, Neliswa Mbingo, Nonkululeko Shabangu, Mancoba Ndwandwe and Sandile Dlamini. They were led by Coach Adiele Dube.

The club Captain, Mthethwa, said at first they were intimidated especially because the gala was dominated by the young ones. He said they were working hard and they wanted the team to compete almost in all the swimming events in the country.

“There are lots of students at the university who did swimming at school and this is a chance for them to continue with the sport even at tertiary. We are happy that the Swaziland National Swimming Association (SNSA) welcomed us with warm hands,” he said.
Mthethwa, Dlamini and Shabangu went home on the day smiling as they won gold medals.

SNSA President Berger Nxumalo said they were happy that more teams were joining in. He said they wanted to see as many clubs as possible taking part in swimming that will improve the standard of the competition.
