MBABANE – It is now official, this year’s Stanlib Swaziland Oyama International Champ of Champs Kyokushinkaikan tournament will be battled by the country and neighbours South Africa – no Zimbabwe.

The tournament was launched last Friday at Stanlib Swaziland offices inside the capital city. It was announced that only Swaziland and South Africa will partake this time around as Zimbabwe would not make it this time around.

“The dates have been confirmed. November 25 is tournament day as of 10am but we expect all dojos (clubs) to have submitted their fighters’ lists by November 18 which is next week (this Saturday). We’ll then do our weigh-in on November 24 from 6pm to 9pm,” confirmed Sensei Zwelile Thwala.

He said the hosting venue this year was Mavuso Sports Emporium and the public was invited to come and support their children and relatives as they fight it out for the country against their neighbours South Africa. Recently, Zimbabwe who are very strong competitors were also part of Oyama’s biggest and final event of each calendar year but not in the last two years.

Thwala explained that each fighter was expected to pay a fighting fee of E150 before they can be allowed into the tournament. Oyama Association President Shihan Mfanafuthi Vilakati also confirmed South Africa’s participation saying there would be five provinces taking part. These include the tough teams from Gauteng and Kwa-Zulu Natal among others.
