MBABANE – Mbabane Citizens’ 100 per cent start in the MTN National First Division League has earned them the E60 000 first round incentive.

The Robert Maruwa-led side have completed a nine out nine winning record with 27 points. Madlenya are second with 21 points with two matches to spare before the first round ends. The good results for the team have raised hopes within the team as they seek promotion to the MTN Premier League.

Citizens’ squad is dominated by former Mbabane Highlanders players who played while the team was under Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane. The players include defender Celani Shongwe, Sipho Tsabedze who is brother to Mbabane Swallows captain Tony, Manqoba Vilakati, Baimba Kamara and Tawanda Chikola among others.

The team’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sifiso Hlatshwayo said they had not yet met their goal which is to gain promotion to the elite league. He said for now they were halfway through. Citizens were handed the three points and two goals for the game that was never played against Bad Boys.

“The team is doing well and we are hopeful that we will maintain the good performance and achieve our goal of promotion end of the season. If we have won the E60 000, then it is a bonus for the club,” he said.
