11 CITY SLACKERS, COUNTING!

MBABANE – Mbabane City have rewritten the history books albeit for all the wrong reasons.

The MTN bottom loggers have become the first team to lose about a dozen straight matches in the elite league.
Manzini Wanderers condemned the side to their 11th straight defeat after the same number of matches following Wednesday night’s 2-0 result at Mavuso Sports Centre. Since MTN Swaziland came on board to sponsor Swaziland’s flagship football tournament in the 2002/2003 season, no team had suffered 11 straight defeats. Two games are left before the curtain falls on the first round.

Gege Happy Stars, who were campaigning in the league during the Castle era in the 1998-99 season, only lost their first six matches.
Mbabane City statistics do not make for riveting reading as they have also gone for over 630 minutes of football without scoring a goal. They last scored in the 2-3 defeat to Vovovo in game four on September 28 this year. The outfit have conceded 24 goals in 11 games, which is an average of two goals per match.

On top of a disastrous campaign, City’s technical bench is now reportedly divided. Head coach, Artwell Dludlu, who has been in charge since the start of the campaign, has taken the backseat.

He now watches from the stands after a fall-out with one of the officials. He did not bark any instructions when the side lost 0-2 to Red Lions at Prince of Wales on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 0-2 loss to Manzini Wanderers at Mavuso Sports Centre, he sat at the VIP area while assistant, Isiah ‘Ice’ Dlamini, was calling the shots.

When sought for comment yesterday, the former Luve Stars coach conceded that he felt the environment was no longer conducive, but would not walk away from the team unless told otherwise by the directors.
