COURT ORDERS RE-ELECTION

MBABANE – It’s a re-election for Women Football Association’s (WFA) Executive Committee, the High Court has ordered.

Exactly three months after the WFA held its annual general assembly at Sigwaca House and also voted in a new Executive Committee to hold office for four years, the six teams that challenged the elections in court yesterday celebrated victory.

It was double joy for them as their suspension by the same executive they were challenging was also lifted by the judge. Initially, the verdict was due on October 13 but only came out yesterday.

The six teams are; Royal Leopard, Lobamba Highlanders, Mbekelweni, Shiselweni Roses, Siteki Ladies and Southern Divas. Their quest appeared doomed when the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) could not assist them after formally reporting their grievances but got no redress.

Furthermore, when they went to court, they succeeded in getting an interim order stopping the Sonnyboy Mabuza-led Executive Committee from continuing with its duties or getting the NFAS’s blessing to start work.

However, that order was defied but they never gave up. They got suspended for not honouring an invite to a meeting with the same committee on grounds that they were in court challenging the committee’s authenticity in office.

There was also a time when Mabuza and his committee, which also includes Aaron ‘Katalala’ Mavimbela as secretary, also got their own interim order that overturned the one that favoured the teams. However, the final ruling is out and the NFAS now has to sanction a re-election and see to it that it is transparent. What is an open secret here, as published by this newspaper back in July when the elections conflict started, is that the clubs want a woman leader which is encouraged by FIFA.
