MBABANE – The lack of activity since June 10 for the national team Sihlangu has seen the Pieter De Jongh-led team drop by one place in the latest FIFA World Rankings.

The world football governing body, FIFA, released the September rankings yesterday and Swaziland is down from 139 to 140. While the downslide has been the case this year despite a 1-all draw with Niger away in the opening group J AFCON Cup 2019 Qualifiers, Tunisia, who visit the country early next year for the first leg of the qualifiers, are swelling in the world rankings.

The two rivals are now miles apart in the rankings when Sihlangu once hit position 91 after their last AFCON Cup Qualifiers campaign and COSAFA Cup exploits. Tunisia is nicely perched at position 28 which indicates they shot up three places.

Sihlangu’s other Group J opponents, Egypt, did not move as they retained their 30th position. De Jongh and his charges have only held a 10-day camp during the past FIFA week which ended last week. National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) CEO Frederick Mngomezulu was quoted saying the squad would get into action in the next international week starting on November 6 to 14.

He said they were looking at two international friendly matches but potential opponents could not be revealed as they were still negotiating with several countries. He also confirmed this during the NFAS’s press conference last week.
