MBABANE – MTN Swaziland and the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) are set to renew their ‘marriage’ vows this week.

With the curtain falling on the three-year Swazi MTN/Premier League of Swaziland sponsorship at the end of the current 2017/2018 season,  the Times Sports Desk has reliably established that Swazi MTN has tabled a significantly improved new three-year sponsorship deal.

This has happened through a number of meetings that have been held by the two parties, with the last one having taken place on Friday.
It is understood that Swazi MTN has proposed to increase the sponsorship by 22 per cent for the next three years; 2018/2019, 2019/2020, 2020/2021 seasons.

Over the past years, Swazi MTN would increase the Premier League’s sponsorship by 10 per cent each time the sponsorship had to be renewed.

This would mean that the total proposed package would be around E14m spread over the next three football seasons considering that the soon-to-expire contract was for about E11.4m.

Swazi MTN Senior Manager Brand Communications and Sponsorships Sam Shongwe confirmed having tabled an improved offer from the previous ones.

“I wouldn’t like to disclose the figures until we finalise with them (PLS). But we’ve given them an offer for the next three years and how much we’re willing to sponsor. The sponsorship will definitely increase. In actual fact, our original offer was a much more increased offer and is well over the normal 10 per cent, but I don’t want to be talking about the numbers,” Shongwe said.
