TAMBANKULU – A goal by forceful newcomers Matsapha United in each half helped them to reclaim the third spot following a 2-1 win over a hard fighting Tambuti yesterday.

As the chase for the E350 000 first round incentive heats up, the win at the hot Tambankulu Stadium outside Mhlume in the MTN Premier League showdown helped the ‘Deep Blue Ocean’ to keep the leading duo of Mbabane Swallows and Young Buffaloes in sight.

Matsapha, who noticeably paraded a depleted squad due to injuries and suspensions of goalkeeper Khanyakezwe Shabalala and fullback, Sifiso Maseko, by the National Football Association of Swaziland, are now on15 points after round seven. They are still unbeaten alongside Buffaloes and Swallows.

For the brave Tambuti, who have unfortunately dropped 15 points in six matches, they had to rue missed chances again after failing to overturn the two-goal deficit following Vusumuzi Zungu and Sdumo Shongwe’s strikes. The home side’s consolation goal was converted by the fast improving Neliso Myeni, who is now on four goals.

Despite an early scare inside 10 minutes after trusted South African import, Siphamandla Dlamini twisted his ankle, Matsapha finally cracked the Tambuti defence marshalled by Sihlangu defender, Siboniso Ndzabandzaba, in the 24th minute. Erroneous Tambuti goalkeeper, Thokozani Mkhulisi, hacked Nkosinamandla Nkambule with an open boot in the box.
