OUT DIDIBHUKU, IN NGUDZE AS LIONS MD
MBABANE – A new broom sweeps better than an old one.
Elite league side Red Lions have since appointed businessman Ngudze Mamba as the club’s new Managing Director. He replaces businessman Didibhuku Thwala, who had been in charge for the past two seasons or so.
Mamba was already serving as the team’s Management Committee (MC) Chairman but was yesterday confirmed as the sole director of Emabhubesi as Red Lions are also fondly known. A statement conveyed by the club to our offices yesterday confirmed the latest developments.
“The Dlaminis have officially given me the club to lead and transform to greater heights that befit FIFA standards. I’m grateful for the opportunity to showcase my leadership skills and I can assure people the team is okay as we’ve now got all the players we didn’t have in the first few games,” he said as he confirmed his take-over.
Mamba thanked the Dlamini family which owns the team and that includes Green Mamba’s striker Phinda ‘Phindrix’ Dlamini, son of the late Busi Dlamini, who kept this team alive with her passion and dedication as a loyal football servant in the country.
“I am also here to add value and ensure that as PLS Governors, we can protect and grow the football brand together as a unit. I also want to showcase my leadership skills by transforming Red Lions,” he said.
Asked on the expenditure that football requires for a club to survive and run smoothly, he said all that was planned and he was ready for it. He even said from July to date, he has already spent around E350 000 in salaries, preseason, signing players and game preparations.
Questioned on Thwala’s position, he explained that he was overseas for the next two seasons but was still part of the club as an elder.
“I take note that I’m playing Moneni Pirates tomorrow who I have worked with and we know each other very well so I’m looking at nothing but a win. They need to come with the points that we so much need,” he said.
