MBABANE – Woe unto players who deliberately shunned Sihlangu call-ups or left without management consent during the national squad’s 10-day camp that ends today.

Sihlangu coach Pieter de Jongh called 29 players to the camp at the Football Association (FA) Technical Centre in Lobamba. The players are Mbabane Swallows attacking midfielder Felix Badenhorst, Matsapha United’s duo of goalkeeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala and defender Sifiso ‘Tjovitjo’ Maseko, Young Buffaloes trio of Siboniso ‘Sithobela’ Mamba, Wandile Maseko and Simphiwe Gamedze along with Justice Figuareido and Sandile Dlamini, both from Manzini Sundowns.

The eight players are reported to have either shunned the camp or left prematurely on Friday night. Speaking to members of the media during yesterday’s hastily called press briefing, FA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu said they would meet with the squad management and technical team this morning to receive reports, sending a stern warning that action would be taken if need be as they continue to take the national team to the next level. But it is no hidden fact that most players are struggling to work harmoniously with Dutch coach De Jongh if recent reported stand-offs are anything to be considered.

“We depend on the reports from the national team coaches and we’ll only be meeting with them tomorrow (today) at 10am. But we certainly want to see the national team reaching high levels so we’ll take action where we must but the coaches will determine it with their reports,” Mngomezulu responded when questioned about players not respecting the national team camp. Mngomezulu also said it was not only the players’ responsibility but their clubs too in making sure national call-ups were respected.
