LOBAMBA – Deputy Senate President, Ngomyayona Gamedze has lamented the unavailability of a sponsor for a top eight tournament.

Castle has been the sponsor for top eight tournament for the past four years until 2016.

Speaking during the debate of the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs first quarter performance report in Parliament yesterday, Gamedze, who is also one of the Mbabane Highlanders directors, said anyone could sponsor the tournament at this stage, even Swazi Mobile.

The latter was commended for allowing supporters free access to some CAF games a few months ago. Gamedze appealed to companies to take advantage of the opening and partner with football.

Meanwhile, in his submissions, Gamedze also wondered if Sihlangu coach, Pieter De Jongh’s contract was performance based.  The coach’s contract expires in March next year.

Gamedze decried the poor rating of Sihlangu and felt the worst was still to come. Sihlangu’s issues again dominated yesterday’s deliberations as the senators still demanded answers on why erstwhile gaffer, Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, who steered the team to a historic COSAFA Cup bronze medal last year, was not made at least an assistant to the incumbent.

Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David Çruiser’Ngcamphalala will submit a written report on the concerns by Monday.
Senator Sibusiso Shongwe, who is former Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, on the other hand, highlighted that football was a unifying factor. He felt there were a lot angry people in the country and sports could help to ‘calm them down.’ He further suggested a tournament between senators and members of parliament.
