MBABANE – Manzini Sundowns lost to Malanti Chiefs 1-2 while playing under extremely dense fog at Killarney Sports Ground in Pigg’s Peak.

The match officials decided to continue with the match despite that the two goalkeepers could hardly see each other from the opposite ends of the field. This has opened a can of worms for the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) as Sundowns are crying foul over the incident.

Sundowns Public Relations Officer (PRO) Muzi Matsenjwa said due to the dense fog, he couldn’t even see the three goals scored on the day. Matsenjwa said he even missed his team’s goal scored by Mbutfo Mthethwa. Malanti’s goals were scored by the duo of Charles Molopo and Lindokuhle Fakudze.

“I personally didn’t see all three goals scored because they went in on one goal post (right hand side of grand stand). Visibility was within 10 metres at most. We wonder why the game started in the first place under such terrible weather conditions,” he said.

“We will wait for the match official’s reports, including the referees, match commissioner and stadium representative. We will take it from there and explore our options in consideration of the rules and regulations of the tournament,” he said. Sundowns are now 10th in the 14-teams log with five points after five matches.

Meanwhile, Sundowns Chairman Mark Carmichael has expressed his concerns over the poor results. Sundowns has only recorded one win, two losses and a draw. Matsenjwa said by their standard it is a poor start in the season and the chairman has requested a performance audit from the Ernest Mavuso led side.
