MBABANE – It will rain money for outstanding runners in next Saturday’s Swazi Plaza Night Run.

According to the prize breakdown for the September 30 race, which has a revised E100 000 purse, the champion will walk away with E7 000.

Both the female and male champion will get the same prizes for conquering the 7km event.
Golden Foot Secretary Gideon Mthembu said it would be prizes galore as there would E28 000 up for grabs in the team’s category. A team with the biggest contingent will get E12 000. To qualify, a club should bring not less than 20 runners.

Category winners that include juniors, veterans, masters, and grand masters will also get a share from the big ‘carrot.’
Meanwhile, Swazi Plaza partnered with Golden Foot Athletics Club, United General Insurance and Active Matrix Gym for the 2017 instalment of the event.

Registration fee is only E50. Registration centres include Active Matrix Gym and Sneakers in Mbabane, Matsapha Sports House, and Manzini Fitness Zone.
The race will start at Swazi Plaza Park and the participants will race towards Total Gardens and turn left to run past the Chinese Embassy.

Other areas on the route include CTA, Embassy House, St Mark’s, and Sandla.
The event was launched in 2014 and Veli Dlamini, from Umbutfo Swaziland Defence, won the inaugural edition. Last year, Ntokozo Dlamini, who is also from USDF, claimed gold when the sponsorship was E70 000.
