MBABANE – Desperate times call for desperate measures. The Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) knows it better going into ‘week three’ of the MTN Premier League 2017/18 season.

The consequence of either the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) or National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) not owning a single stadium is playing itself out given this weekend’s fixtures.

The big one is that of reigning league champions Mbabane Swallows who visit hub giants Manzini Wanderers on Saturday.
Ordinarily, this fixture is one for Somhlolo National Stadium but the country’s soccer Mecca is closed to football this weekend to pave way for the Jehovah’s Witnesses annual prayer. Also, it had been one of the fixtures the sponsor MTN Swaziland had wanted to use as the official grand opening and host a Y’ello Sunday.

However, the unavailabilty of Somhlolo has forced the PLS to go against its own ban for big fixtures at the tiny and unfenced Mavuso Sports Centre – after the skirmish that saw Mbabane Highlanders and Manzini Wanderers fans getting injured after having forced their way into the venue prompting the PLS to take a decision never to again let the big three teams face off in the venue.

A fixture released by the organisation’s COO Pat Vilakati yesterday confirmed the desperate situation as reported last Saturday in the Swazi News that the country’s soccer Mecca would not be available to host the grand opening games.
Wanderers will now host Swallows at 3.30pm at Mavuso and will be preceded by a clash between Moneni Pirates and Young Buffaloes at 1.30pm.
