LOBAMBA – Mbabane Highlanders shot-stopper Sidumo Vilakati has received rave reviews from celebrated South Africa-based goalkeeper coach Alejandro Heredia.

Heredia, who was born in Argentina, is responsible for the development of South African top goalkeepers that include Itumeleng Khune, Darren Keet, Wayne Sandilands and Ronwan Williams, among others.

Heredia was an interested spectator during Sunday’s MTN League triple-header played at Somhlolo National Stadium.
The FIFA instructor is in the country for a five-day long MA Goalkeepers course that started yesterday at the Football Association (FA) Technical Centre.

“I witnessed interesting performances played at frantic pace but notably, the gap was big between some teams. The standard was different between games but there is definitely big potential. On the goalkeepers, my feelings were mixed. The Highlanders goalkeeper (Sidumo Vilakati), who got injured, has huge potential but lacks discipline in some areas of his game. Sometimes he tries too hard when simplicity is vital in goalkeeping.

“He covered all the other aspects that make a good goalkeeper, that is from handling, organisation and distribution. My first impression is that he is a good goalkeeper but obviously one can need to work with him daily to determine or fulfill his potential,” Heredia said.
Heredia also noted potential in Manzini Sundowns goalkeeper Lwethu Simelane but insisted the 19-year old will have to work on his footing.
