MALINDZA – It’s from rags to riches for 86 children in this area – all thanks to the Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) and football.

Just last year, the beneficiaries had no decent structure for their food to the point that they would sometimes eat it with dust as a makeshift stick and mud kitchen was used. However, through the Swazi Telecom Charity Cup, history was witnessed yesterday when the Deputy Prime Minister Paul Dlamini, in his capacity as acting Prime Minister, officially opened and handed over a proper soup kitchen.
Through some of the funds from the Charity Cup last year, Malindza had SPTC built a soup kitchen and classroom for the children.

“We greatly appreciate the work done by SPTC and football. Your work is clear and evident to all Swazis over the years. I officially open and hand over the soup kitchen building to the area’s authorities,” Dlamini said.
He encouraged the elders of the area and community to look after the structure and ensure that no food was stolen from it. He further urged the community to work hard in keeping their children safe, especially because these days there were criminals who killed for human parts ostensibly because of next year’s national elections.

“Who has ever got a position because of using private parts? They keep claiming it’s all for elections but there’s no truth in that. They are just criminals who need to be caught and brought to justice,” he said. He also observed the presence of SPTC Board’s Chairman Dr Tambo Gina.

“Usually I don’t see the Board but if the chairman could come out today (yesterday), it shows how committed SPTC is to the charity course which also assists government in developing the country,” he said.
He also wished the football teams well as the Charity Cup starts today in Nhlangano with the play-off match between Moneni Pirates and Manzini Sundowns. The main one-day tournament is next Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium.
Also present was PLS, National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) representatives, ICT Ministry’s Principal Secretary Bheki Gama, Tourism Minister Christopher Gamedze, Chief Ndlondlo and MP Sitezi Dlamini.
