MBABANE – Ishibobo Academy goalkeeper Anele Ngwenya is a rose among the thorns in the Manzini Build-It Under-13s pick team.

The 13-year-old, who starred for the Ishibobo side that lost 4-5 on penalties to Manzini Sundowns in the final at Manzini Club on Saturday, has made the cut in the 20-member squad to represent the zone in the national championships in October.

Anele is one of seven players from the Mbongeni ‘Mashibobo’ Simelane-led academy that are in the Manzini team.
National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Marketing and Communications Officer, Muzi Radebe, confirmed the list and lauded the youngsters for their determination on the day.
“Football development was the winner as the eight teams competed,” said Radebe.

Champions Sundowns and fellow Premier League outfit, Moneni Pirates, both have representatives in the team.
“What was also unique about this championship was the participation of a young girl by the name of Anele Ngwenya who is a goalkeeper for Ishibobo Academy.
“This young girl’s participation is an indication that football development and the beautiful game in general is for everyone. Speaking of women’s involvement in football; the winning coach of this competition was also a woman. Her name is Zandile Bulunga,” said Radebe.

The tournament, which is the country’s flagship juniors’ soccer festival, is run by the NFAS in conjunction with long time sponsors, Build-It. The first event was staged in Nhlangano about a fortnight ago. The next stop will be at Matsapha Correctional on Saturday at 8am. The full list of the participating will be confirmed before the end of the day.
