WHY LOCAL PLAYERS FAIL TRIALS IN SA

MBABANE – Football lovers are wondering why our players are failing to impress their suitors on foreign land.

Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa is one typical example. He is no doubt a top class footballer but he has failed to sign contracts with Bloemfontein Celtics and recently Supersport United. At Celtics, Ndzinisa was unlucky not to win a contract as the team said he was not the type of player they were looking for.  Interestingly after ‘Sikhali’ plundered a quadruple against Platinum Stars in May in the CAF Confederation Cup, Celtics revived talks but Swallows turned them down.
‘Sikhali’ has been consistent and he scored 19 league goals in the 2016/17 MTN League. New Supersport United coach Eric Tinkler said the player was good but he had enough strikers at his disposal.

The Pretoria-based side boasts of the likes of Jeremy Brockie, Kingston Nkhata, Bradley Grodler and Prince Dube in the striking force.
Swazi international Siza ‘King Pele’ Dlamini, who is the assistant coach at Jomo Cosmos, said local players were good but football politics were at play.

“It is without a doubt that we have equally good players who are capable of playing not only in South Africa but overseas. You can’t tell me a player is not good enough when he has scored 19 goals in the domestic league and further proved himself in the CAF Confederation Cup. In my opinion I believe there are lot of football politics at play here,” Dlamini said.

He went on to acknowledge that agents come in handy for a player to win a contract.
“Well, sometimes agents are not good as they put their interests first before that of the player’s. However,  there are good agents out there who can negotiate a good offer between the team and his suitor, and that benefits both parties but sometimes other players and their agents bribe the coach to get signed,” he said.
