MBABANE – It was not a good day in office for the country’s sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa in the IAAF World Championships 200m heats.

He clocked way back from the national record as he finished in 20:67 seconds while the national record stood at 20:58 seconds. He was up against 400m world record holder South Africa’s Wayde Van Niekerk who won the heat three on 20:16 seconds to qualify for the finals billed for tomorrow. Matsenjwa has bowed out of the competitions.
Matsenjwa did not have a good start as in the middle of the race he was last only to push towards the finishing line where he crossed ahead of two athletes being Aldemer Da Silva Junior and Burkheart Ellis Junior.
South Africa’s Van Niekerk is the favourite to win the finals in the absence of world record holder Jamaica’s Usain Bolt. Another African athletes who stands to steal the show in the 200m is Botswana’s Isaac Makwala and Akani Simbine from South Africa.
Matsenjwa went to London to compete only in 200m. He did his final training ahead of the competitions in German and Switzerland where he spent three weeks competing.
