MALKERNS – More competitors had the audacity to survive the Malkerns leg of the Swazi Cross-Fit Challenge.

Compared to the April competition where only 30 per cent of the men Under-40 managed to complete the course; about 85 per cent of the participants were ‘survivors’ at Malkerns Country Club on Saturday.

One of the organisers, Thea Litschka-Koen, lauded the ‘warriors’ for their tenacity.
“Athletes of Swaziland are on the increase, and they have improved greatly since the first competition at Simunye Country Club in April.
“Those brave enough to tackle the course were well-prepared and knew it was going to be very tough,” said Litschka-Koen.

Meanwhile, the five-metre rope climb proved a nightmare for the ladies Under-40. As a result, many were not able to complete all the obstacles.  Carol Preat completed the course in a very good time of 11 minutes, closely followed by Dina Da Costa with a time of 14 minutes.

In the ladies Over-40, the unstoppable Catija De Sousa passed the endurance and speed test with flying colours. She posted the sixth fastest time of 11:25:29 minutes.
Meanwhile, Mzamo Mavuso flawlessly executed the seven power exercises to be a champion again in 08:44 minutes.
The competitors were required to repeatedly do seven power exercises that included flipping a pole with a 60kg head. Other exercises were the power slide and 25kg bag toss, among others.

Once again, all the competitors received wonderful sponsored gifts such as T-shirts, pens, caps, balls, key rings and other novelty prizes.  The sponsors of the Swazi Cross-Fit competition were Sportshouse, Score Energy Drink, LinkMed and Tyrehouse.
