MALKERNS – Visiting South Africa’s Mark Meyer and Geoffrey Anderson proved invincible on the trails to claim the inaugural Swazi Escape Mountain Bike Challenge title.

After the  last lap of the two-day 120km event at Malandela’s in Malkerns yesterday, the duo representing Team  Mankele from Nelspruit  claimed gold with a cumulative time of  06:42:37 hours. They ranked second during the decider of the event, but went on to win it following an unassailable lead on Saturday.

Anderson said day two had less climbs, highlighting that they raced with the stage two champions for the better part of the route.
“The route proved a challenge at first, but we cycled with the Swazi team that ranked second most of the time,” said Anderson.
Meanwhile, Logico’s Anthony Geldard and Dean Wolverson hoisted the country’s flag high in the race.

On top of winning stage two with a time of 03:12:06 hours yesterday, the pair ranked second overall. They were second on day one with a time of 03:34:39 hours. Their total time was 06:46:45 hours, which was four minutes behind the winner.
