MBABANE – Born-again former soccer stars will preach the gospel to the hordes of their followers during this weekend’s Bible Society Cup.

The likes of former Sihlangu and Manzini Wanderers skipper Jerry ‘Mbazo’ Gamedze, retired XI Men In Flight duo of John ‘Nineveh’ Maseko and Brooks ‘Phinda Mzala’ Kasuku have been lined up to share the Word of God during the inaugural tournament, which is a rare partnership between  football and the church.

The one-day tournament is billed for the old Trade Fair Ground where the main attraction on the day will be the hub derby pitting  Manzini Wanderers against Sundowns to kick off at 3pm. The tournament’s PRO Mduduzi ‘Mr G’ Ginindza, said the concept was clear proof that the Bible is boundless.

“The power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to save people has been demonstrated even in our soccer heroes, who are now ambassadors of God through preaching,” he said.

In line with the objectives of the tournament, supporters would have to produce the siSwati Bible as the entry fee.

Those who do not own the holy book, it would be sold at the gates from E85 upwards. Ginindza said the fans may bring new or old Bibles and they would be allowed entry to the games.
Manzini Sundowns PRO Muzi Matsenjwa said the team was ready for the clash.
