MBABANE – Being kept on the trails for the whole weekend will be a welcome change for daring cyclists.

All roads lead to Malkerns and Mlilwane for the inaugural Swazi Escape Mountain Bike (MTB) Challenge between Saturday and Sunday.  The invitational race, which is open to 75 entries, covers a total distance of 120km.

Malandela in Malkerns will be the starting point of the race on day one. Action gets underway at 6:30am.The off-road races enthusiasts will then head to Mlilwane outside Lobamba on the following day for the last 60km lap.

According to information from the organisers, day one would lead to Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary.
“The climbs are always justified by an exhilarating descent, often in the direction of something beautiful and special like Mantenga Falls and Cultural Village,” partly reads information from the organisers.

On the last day, the cyclists will endure less climbs. They will navigate through plantations of pineapples, along the endless systems of canals, through to the University of Swaziland, among other places.

The participants are expected to finalise their registration logistics for the race from 2pm tomorrow at the host venue. There will be a race briefing and dinner from 7pm.

Meanwhile, the event is sanctioned by the Cycling Association of Swaziland (CAS). As a result, all International Cycling Union (UCI) rules and regulations apply. For further enquiries, the cyclists may liaise with Lee Wansbury on 76759624 or Travis Hesom on 7627 5821.  They can also contact Jason Foss on 7681 9191.
